Don't you move up a size in diapers to prevent blow outs? Josiah is around 12lbs. now and is right at that point where size 1-2 diapers are too small but size 2 are just a little big. That means that no matter what diaper we use we are bound to have poopy clothes. Yesterday we changed him 3 times out of poopy clothes and boy am I tired of all the laundry. We tried to come up with ideas on how to prevent so much poop getting all over his clothes, like putting a pair of pants underneath his onesie. We even discussed putting on 2 diapers (the smaller one underneath the bigger one), we never did try it though! I understand that some babies are just powerful poopers (we have some of those at the day care) and that no matter what you do that poop will sneak out of every corner of that diaper and only end up on the clothes. Guess I better stock up on some good stain remover.
Don't you love blowouts? Bleh. I just make sure his diaper is as snug as I can when we are between sizes. Like right now a 4 is too small but the 5 is a bit big so I pull it up to make sure the crotch is snug before I fasten and then I fold the top in a bit. Seems to work great for Nate but every baby is different!
ReplyDeletei'd try the bigger of the two diapers - blowouts were always my first clue that diapers weren't big enough anymore to do the job!
ReplyDeletealso, i'm not sure if you guys have considered cloth diapering at all, but if you have a cloth diaper cover or even a cheap-o pair of plastic pants, just put that on over the disposable. i sometimes have to do that overnight for atticus. it works GREAT.
how's gluten-free eating going? i've actually started eating grain-free recently to see if i dont' have an unidentified allergy that's causing some health issues - have any recipes you've found that you could recommend?
Gluten-free has been difficult still. I honestly haven't had the time to look for recipes but once this busy weekend is over I can hopefully sit down and really try to figure out some meals. We are also considering switching to soy milk to see if that will help us feel better. We've thought about trying goats milk but are too scared to actually go through with it, haha! I'll let you know if I come across some good recipes!
ReplyDeleteAs far as diapers goes, we are keeping up with the size 2 diapers, just making sure they are on very snug. We are also trying a different brand (Huggies) because Luvs has been giving him diaper rash. We thought about cloth diapering but decided not to since he won't be able to use cloth diapers at day care. Maybe if I stay at home in the future we will switch to cloth diapers!
Cloth definately prevent many-a-blowouts! I think it is because the cloth slow down the propulsion a bit as compared to the smooth inside of a fresh and clean disposable. We always used huggies at night and had no problems, but luvs seem to have a ton of perfume in them which is probably why he is having problems!
