Baby Shopping Time!

On Wednesday this week Andrew and I will be having the ultrasound! Hopefully we'll be able to find out the sex of the baby. So, I'm opening it up for guesses on what you think it is...boy? girl? twins?!?

With that, we'll be starting our baby registry in the next month and I would like suggestions of what to put on there. What items are necessary? How much clothes? How many of each size? Brands? Types of strollers, carriers, car seats? Tell me EVERYTHING!

  1. I was wondering when you would blog again! I'm going to guess a girl...I didn't even think about twins bc of J&J hahaha that would be interesting.

Things that I think are a must have...
diapers, we bought a couple packs of diapers and a thing of wipes every check and were gifted several packs at our shower.

onesies and sleepers are what you will use most the first several months. Although it will be winter in IA so I would say pants too. All of the cute outfits are wonderful but don't get too many in the first couple sizes because they outgrow them so fast! Babe skipped newborns and was in 3-6 mths by the end of the first month. There were so many outfits he never even wore!

I have learned toddler bedding is A LOT cheaper then crib bedding, the difference being crib bedding has bumpers..which you can only use the first few months if the baby likes them. Ours were used a week. I wish I had known bc I wouldn't have spend $200 on bedding, I'd have spent the $40 on toddler sets.

Dr. Browns bottles are best to prevent gas. Soothies were the best pacis for us, your little one may be different.

A changing area! Spend the extra and get the changing table, it's so much easier to change them on those!

Umm...this is becoming a long comment...if you want add my on facebook (I'm on Rs) or email me if you want advice/have questions/whatever Allison! If not that's cool too. You will be a great mommy!

  2. My number one baby clothing item to buy are onesies and lots of them. They are cheap and you go through quite a few when they are little due to spitting up, umbilical cord ooze (before it falls off completely), and blow outs. Eden was a fairly small baby and gerber 0-3 months fit her well in the beginning but gerber are not my favorite because they are thin and their sizing is weird. I recommend getting Carters brand because they are longer and if you are going to cloth diaper, they actually fit. Also, if your baby is skinny like mine, they actually fit her around. Onesies are my go to pj, undershirt, and just plan outfit.

We bought a travel system thinking it was a great investment but we actually love our umbrella stoller more. The stroller in the travel system is really, really nice and worked great when she was really little because you can recline the seat and it is still really nice for walks on the trail but it honestly does not get as much use for the price we paid for it. The carseat on the other hand was wonderful! We loved the bucket and she used it for 7 or 8 months before we got a convertible car seat because I could no longer carry her in the bucket. The convertible carseat can be used for newborn infants since it is rear-facing and then can be used up to 100 lbs forward-facing. I probably wouldn't use it for a newborn just because it is so big and the bucket seat reclines and craddles them. Plus, if they fall asleep in the car the bucket can just be taken along with you and you can attach it to a grocery cart if you do not want to hold or wear your little guy. Both of our car seats are Eddie Bauer.

As far as baby carriers go, I personally have not really cared for our baby bjorn thingy. There are too many straps that you have to place just so. I loved my sling when Eden was tiny enough for it because I could carry her but also have hands free. This time around I am going to be making my own moby wrap, since you can baby wear so many different ways with it.

Breast pumps (if you decide you need one) are an investment. I have used both the Medela and Ameda and some cheaper versions. I recommend getting a manual hand pump and the Medela Pump In Style (Garrett thinks the name is really corny). Check with your insurance because they might cover a whole new one as long as it is purchased at the hospital - ours did. I also recommend getting reusable pump containers instead of pump bags. Pump bags are really, really nice but the price adds up like crazy with how many I went through. Plus, the reusable ones save on garbage.

Eden uses a pacifier because she needed one. We tried all sorts of ones but she liked the Nuk (I think that's what they are or soothies maybe???). They are kind of ugly and big (they are the round green ones). I found gumdrop pacifiers online that are the exact same but come in colors and are smiley cut so their whole face isn't covered up. They are pretty cheap and ship fast (with shipping we pay $15 for 8).

Hmm...There is so much more that I know I am missing but congratulations!!!!!! The Hufford's are so excited for you!
