To All the Stay At Home Mom's!

Hubby and I are trying to figure out how it is financially possible for me to stay home when the baby comes and still make some money to help pay for our finances-I have LOTS of student loans to pay off! Any suggestions? I am currently a Pampered Chef consultant and hope to grow my business more once baby comes but I would still need something else to bring in an extra $700-$800 a month but still allows me to NOT send my baby to a daycare or spend lots of money on a nanny. Please let me know of ANY suggestions-really!

  1. my default idea is nannying yourself - you could keep your ears open for anyone needing childcare during the day. even watching one kid could easily bring in 500 bucks a month.

as for us, we've focused on the ways in which we can save money with me being home...spending more time being diligent with the grocery budget, garage saling, etc. we don't service the car as much or spend NEARLY as much in gas, and i don't have to keep up a specific wardrobe for work. just examples, but we actually save a lot of money having me at home.

if you listen to pastor mark driscoll at all, you should listen to his "women as homebuilders" sermon (http://www.marshillchurch.org/media/proverbs/women-as-homebuilders) - it has a lot of great points regarding saving money by being a stay-at-home wife/mom (as well as other great information).

in response to your question, michael jorgenson owns his own practice, family chiropractic - it's back by applebees and red lobster. his number is 515-233-9087.

    congrats again on the baby!!

  2. Watching other people's kids while you watch your own is a good idea. Otherwise you could look into transporting disabled or elderly people to appointments. It would be easy, you could just put an ad out in the paper and say however much you would charge. You obviously wouldn't want to charge too much because they probably wouldn't be able to afford very much but it might be something to think about.

  3. Or you could always sell stuff on ebay. Like finding cheap stuff at garage sales or thrift stores and then sell them for a higher price.

    Is that illegal?

  4. One thing Garrett and I doing is focusing on our budget. We are also realizing the things that we can live without - aka cable is a big one. I also read Money Saving Mom (blog) to get some amazing coupons and am learning how to spend way less than even our budgeted amount on groceries. I would say for a month, just look at what you spend and how much. Then sit down and discuss what can be cut out. Also, take into account what is important to you as a couple and as a family.

Also, a friend of mine does medical transcription that you could look into doing (you have to take a class for it). Or you can become a CNA (just a one class ceritifcation) and work one weekend a month.

I will be praying that God will provide a way for you to be able to stay home and love and nurture that little babe of yours!!!!!
